Tunic and trousers

A 1918 German stormtrooper, also known as a "Sturmtruppen," wore a distinct and practical uniform designed for the unique nature of their warfare. Here's what their tunic and pants looked like:

Tunic:Feldgrau (field grey), single-breasted with a high collar, four front pockets, some with epaulets for rank. Shorter cut for flexibility.

Trousers:Feldgrau, loose-fitting with cuffed ankles, reinforced knees with leather patches for durability and protection. Also no marching boots but lowboots with puttees

Stormtroopers were known for their flexibility and speed, and their uniform was designed to support that functionality.

Helmet

A reenactor for 1918 stormtruppen (German stormtroopers from World War I) should consider buying a Stahlhelm (steel helmet) for several reasons.

Here's an overview of the pros and cons of this iconic piece of military equipment:

Better Protection from Shrapnel:The Stahlhelm was designed to provide superior protection from shrapnel and debris compared to the older Pickelhaube. The deep, angular shape of the Stahlhelm helped deflect shrapnel and protect the skull, particularly from explosions and artillery bursts.

Impaired hearing: The helmet could muffle sounds, which was especially problematic in a combat scenario where communication and hearing approaching dangers were vital.

Intimidation Factor:The Stahlhelm was visually distinct and had a menacing appearance. This could have been used to the German army's advantage in terms of psychological warfare, as soldiers wearing the Stahlhelm could be perceived as more formidable, which might affect morale.

Equipment and weaponry

M1914 Leather Equipment Belt: The standard leather belt, designed for carrying essential gear, would feature a steel buckle and fittings for additional pouches, suited for the fast-moving stormtrooper role.

Luger Holster: A leather holster designed to securely hold the Luger pistol, typically worn on the soldier's hip for easy access during combat situations.

Breadbag (Brotbeutel): A canvas bag, essential for carrying food and personal items during long raids, would have a flap and strap design, worn on the belt or slung across the soldier.

Feldflasche: Two aluminum canteens for extra hydration because raids might take an extended amount of time

Wirecutters (Drahtschneider): A large tool used for cutting through barbed wire, allowing the stormtrooper to clear paths or create openings during infiltration missions.

Pioneer Spade (Pionierschaufel): A large spade used for more specialized use to make trenches better.

Luger Pistol: A semi-automatic pistol carried by the stormtrooper for close-quarters combat and as a secondary weapon to their primary rifle.

Sturmgepack (Stormtrooper Backpack): A lightweight rucksack designed to carry essential supplies, such as extra ammunition, food, and equipment, while allowing for quick movement during raids.

Grabendolch: A trench knife used by stormtroopers in close combat, ideal for silent and lethal attacks in confined spaces like trenches.
